Bargersville, Indiana is nicely situated at the juncture of State Road 144 and Highway 135, which leads directly north into the big city of Indianapolis. Interestingly, State Road 144 is also known as the “Old Plank Road,” even today.
Boasting a population of 2,120 during the 2000 census, Bargersville is one of the many small towns that dot the countryside around the Indiana state capital of Indy. It lies in Johnson County, and has a total land area of only 1.1 square miles. Most who live around the area go there solely to visit the Bargersville Flea Market, which is one of the main Bargersville things to do.

The history of Bargersville, Indiana reads like that of many other small Midwestern towns. First platted in 1850, it was another 75 years before it was officially incorporated. During those decades, the town enjoyed a great deal of progress in a very short period of time, due to a serendipitous extension of the existing railroad, then referred to as the Indianapolis Southern Railroad.
Bargersville is one of the fastest growing communities in Johnson County, located close to anything its residents need, but self-contained as a functioning, healthy town in its own right.
